Hi Veggiedelight,

Sorry, been away a couple of days. You can do enemas yourself. You just need to buy yourself a kit which comprises a bag (mine is the 'hot-water bottle' sort) and a tube. You'll be able to get this on-line and it should come with instructions - or alternatively, here's Kate Magic Wood with some advice:

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=SD1QzlKkz_s

It takes some getting used to and more than likely you won't be able to hold the enemas for long when you first start off. I'd just stick with water to begin with. Once you get the hang of it, and your colon starts to tone up, coffee is great. It's used in alternative cancer therapies and is billed as a real life saver in some quarters. It detoxes the liver, stimulating a release of bile which flushes out stored toxins. It's also supposed to immediately halt any withdrawal symptoms from coffee, so could really help you with the coffee issue. Couple of points to bear in mind - you need to do a water flush or two before doing the coffee enema to avoid re-absorbing stored toxins; coffee needs to be boiled, simmered, strained and cooled (I can give you further instructions if you give me a shout); and it should be held for 15 minutes if possible.

Hope this inspires!

By NO means am I an expert in enemas/colonics, but I have funnily enough just read a contra-indication with using coffee as an enema.....especially people with heart problems, nervous disorders and the like.

Now, I'm NOT fully aware of the difference b/w an enema and colonic.....or if there is any difference.......but the colon is designed to absorb water, therefore by doing a colonic with coffee, all you're doing is absorbing the coffee which then defeats the purpose of trying to give it up.

So hope that gives you another point of view in regards to it.

You can use herbal teas strained for your home-colonic.  Depending what "problem" you have, you can choose different herbs for different issues.  If you want any more info on this, I'll be more than happy to pm you with other alternatives.

Coffee can be extremely deadly.......from what I read, 25 cups a day can kill a person.  NOW before anyone shoots me down with,"WHY would anyone drink that much in a day.  No-ONE does that.  What a stupid comment"....please hear me out.  The reason that comment was made is because coffee is legal......millions of people drink it and think nothing of it and its effects.

So my way of thinking is that by doing an enema with coffee is only going to do you more harm than good.  As funny as this sounds......people get "addicted" to doing "coffee enemas"!!!  Because they're absorbing the caffeine into the colon directly.  What's the difference between drinking it and pushing it up the other end?!!!

Now, this is just some opposite info so that you can make up your own mind.  Look it up for yourself.

Look up a man by the name of Dr Richard Schulze.  He's the man I'm paraphrasing from.

In any event, enemas/colonics are a great way of cleansing yourself.  If you're not up to it or confident enough to do it yourself.....which I'm going to try in the near future myself.......go somewhere where they do it professionally.  At least that way, you'd know then what to expect from it.

Take care

Luv

I used to know someone who drank 17cups a day on average, so i wasnt thinking that at all, lol. He spoke really fast, was jittery and didnt sleep well, surprise surprise, haha.

Ive heard drinking that amount is equivalent to taking speed, not sure how much coffee it exactly is, but theres a point where the effects on the body are the same.

Yes, absolutely agree that it's always worth doing your own research and going with what makes sense and 'feels right' to you. Colon cleansing, never mind the coffee, is a controversial subject. I've had amazing benefits from it, but that's not to say that it's for everyone.

Sorry I haven’t posted for a while, I’ve been away from Perth and had no access to the internet.

Thanks gg and Rita for all your advice, very much appreciated!!!!!!!

Thanks gg for including the link it explained everything in such detail it was very beneficial. I’ve read your journal and I have to say that you've inspired me to try colon cleansing I think it will help with my cravings too.

Its very interesting to note about the coffee Rita, 25 cups can kill a person WOW.  It makes sense that coffee would be absorbed into your system and since I‘m addicted to the stuff I think it would be best for me to avoid using it for now. I like the sound of using herbal teas though. When I go down that road I‘ll definitely pm you about that. I think for now I’m going to start with a professional colonic at least that way I’ll know what to expect.

I finished my three weeks on Monday but haven’t really had time to write a big long post. As you can tell my three weeks 100% raw actually turned into three weeks of me dealing with addictions!! I’m not disappointed though, it addressed some issues for me that I thought I’d dealt with. I was away last week and stayed in a place that was about 30 min from the shops so I couldn’t go and buy myself a coffee in the morning. I was staying with a work mate who is a smoker, I succumbed to my cravings and ended up having cigarettes in the morning to replace the coffee. So what does that tell you??? It mustn’t be the actual caffeine or nicotine that I’m addicted to, if that was the case then a cigarette wouldn’t have helped with my coffee cravings. I guess I’m addicted to the habit and also the numbness it causes. If I’m consumed with thoughts of these substances then I’m not thinking about other more important issues.

I also realised that its a block which is stopping me from achieving other things in my life. I’m always telling myself that when I stop smoking, drinking, procrastinating etc etc I will throw myself into a healthy diet, exercise, meditation and concentrate on achieving my goals.  Every week I say ‘next week I’ll start’, but next week comes and I’m still stuck in the same place. So what’s my pay off why cant I seem to move away from the things that are so destructive??

I’ve been thinking about this question a lot lately and I have come up with this; I have soooo many things that I want to achieve and to be honest I think I’m getting a little scared of actually achieving them. I’ve gotten to a point in my life where I realise that I actually CAN achieve my goals and live my dreams, in fact I’m already starting to. But to fully get there I know I need to change a lot of things that have been my safety blanket for so long. It basically means moving from the known into the unknown which is a frightening concept.

Sorry to bore you with all my internal dribble, I didn’t intend for this to be a therapy type thing for me Lol, but I guess you cant determine what little demons will come out of the closet when you embark on a new lifestyle.

I’m going to stick to raw, from the changes that I’ve made with my diet I feel a lot better emotionally and physically. I’m now planning on doing the 100 day raw food challenge which starts on Friday. I don’t think I’ll go for 100% raw I’m now thinking it may have been a little too ambitious. I’m going to do what Gosia suggested and do a one day challenge everyday, I really think its a great idea.

Thanks for the suggestion Gosia it really makes it seem less daunting. If one day doesn’t go to plan then I’ll just try another one day challenge the next day.

Bye for now

VD - that was such a beautifully honest post.

Alas, I have no advice for you, as my own "internal dribble" would keep a large team of psychiatrists workshopping for weeks!  laugh

Always know that you are moving forwards and that there are many many others who also question, learn and grow in similar ways.  You're not the only one.

Be brave.

Hey Veggie girl. Addictions are strange things that can be overcome. I do not think of it as internal dribble! Not at all. I have my addicitons too and it's great that you can talk freely about them becuase if no one does then everyone will think they are the only ones! No....

You sound very positive and calm about it which is great.

Congrats on your breakthrough!

Thanks miss giggles and Jen for your kind words, it really is nice to know that there are some truly beautiful and supportive people in the world. I feel blessed to have found this forum

Yep addictions are funny things if you look back far enough they always stem from something else.

I started the 100 day challenge yesterday. So far I’m going well, I made a big batch of almond milk yesterday so that I can whip up a cacao drink when my coffee cravings hit, seems to be working for me at the moment which is a relief. Cacao does seem to leave me a little nervy though, I get a bit too much energy and  feel a little shaky.  I don’t mind so much though because at least I’m staying away from coffee and it also gets me off my behind!! I went for a walk yesterday to try and get rid of some of the energy and ended up running 5k……tad stiff this morning LOL. I’ve also signed up for the Perth city to surf 12k run. I’ve done it the last couple of years but this year my goal is to run the entire race.

Hey Veggie, Have you thought about having caramel shakes? You can make these up beforehand and they will be great. I use almond milk, dates and mesquite and banana. They are delish! I'm funny with cacao. Some send my adrenals into a spin and others I'm fine with. I'm not sure why this is.

I enjoy my cacao in the morning. You could also try to reduce the amount of cacao you eat and add an extra date or two.

Ohhhhh good luck with your running. I'm looking forward to getting back into it. Missing my running so very much but the upside is that I can now go bikeriding! I have found versatility.

Mesquite rocks!  It is so like caramel, it's not funny.  One of my favourite favourite superfoods on the planet.

Veg - steady on with that cacao!  laugh

A level dessertspoon is about the most that I use in a smoothie (morning only, never later in the day).

A teaspoon of cacao is still chocolatey & scrumptious, and will reduce any heart palpitations or shaky highs/lows.  It is powerfully alchemical is our friend cacao.

Mesquite comes from the pod of a desert tree. Like carob, it's dried and ground into a fine powder and is one of the most sensational sweetners I've had to date. Very low on the old GI index too apparently.

This week I was doing really well with raw until last night. I went out to dinner with my family for my dads birthday, I didn’t tell them I was raw but I did tell them that I‘m vegan. WOW was I the butt of everyone‘s jokes all night!! After that I just couldn’t bring myself to tell them I was raw so I ended up ordering a rice dish with cooked vegetables and spices to avoid further digs. Usually I’m pretty good at handling these types of things I usually shrug it off and laugh along so that I don’t step on anyone’s toes but to be honest it really upset me this time. I feel strongly about living a compassionate and cruelty free lifestyle and the fact that they find it amusing just makes me sooooo angry. They have always felt the need to laugh and ridicule my beliefs, my career choice and now my lifestyle and I think I’m just getting a tad tired of it.

Anyway I’ll try not to dwell on the negative I just needed to vent a little lol.

On a brighter note I’ve discovered green smoothies yummo! Made one yesterday with banana, pear, strawberry, spinach and celery…was VERY impressed. I’ve also cut down on the amount of cacao I was using. Funny thing is, when I first started using cacao I was only adding 1-2 tsp which was more than enough but it tasted soooooooo darn good I started piling more in. So now I’m back to just one tsp which seems to sit fairly well with me.

I also discovered a raw shop yahh I haven’t been in there yet I’m gonna wait till pay day and check it out. Cant wait to buy some mesquite so I can try a caramel shake.

Oh and I’m still jogging and training for city to surf which is going well so far but I’m going to step it up a little as there is only 3 weeks left…yikes!

Take Care
