I have some yoga questions and I'm hoping that someone here might be able to help me, there seems to be a wealth of knowledge.

I'm just starting out with yoga, I used to be a dancer and I'm looking for something that has similar breath and strength properties without being dancing...  Personal thing, dancing (ballet in fact) has a tendancy to make me slightly obsessive.  So I've decided that yoga will give me similar strength and stretching and breathing.  I've set myself a little yoga challenge, to do at least 10 mins of yoga/T5T every day.

Ok, enough of the intro, can anyone tell me how long it generally takes to become good at yoga?  If you are practicing a few times a week?  I know this is a very variable question but I am asking in general terms.  I'm happy if the answer is 6 months or 6 years, I just want to have an idea in my mind of how long it might take me to become an "accomplished" yoga person...

If there are any good books etc out there that people can recommend that would be fantastic.  At the moment I've starting with a DVD of "Kabbalah Yoga" which I love because its challenging (better than the classes I've tried which I find a little boring most of the time- sorry, it sounds horrid but its true).

Thanks
J

hello SLine...

yoga is the most wonderful movement....i adore it...the challenge of it,the lightness i feel within my body...i have practised yoga for a very long time....my focus was never how 'good' i became at it initially..then when i went to classes(for 3 years) it was soo competetive...and i am too am naturally very competitive...so i withdrew from classes and commenced home practice ( i am comp enough with myself as it is...he he)and naturally improved my technique  and depth of my practice from there...

iwould say i will never be what i would call good in yogi terms...but i am getting to be the best that i can be......
enjoy

Thanks RGG, you are such an inspiration in so many ways!

Ok, to clarify when I say good what I mean is not unco, you know that phase where you fall over all the time and feel totally uncordinated?  I certainly don't wish or need to be amazing, just better than useless Smiley

Hey metamorphasis, How's the yoga coming along? I would guess that you would pick it up faster than most with your dancing background!

I've been doing yoga off and on for about 10 years, but I'm finally starting to practice daily. I have a studio I go to that takes about two hours round trip for transport, so I've been thankful for a website (www.yogatoday.com) that has free yoga videos up, a new one every day. You might find it helpful to try out the videos. Smiley
