I've used mine a bit lately

I make crackers with flax and sunflower seeds, homogonised in the samson then put in the dehydrator - these have been fairly popular with non raw foodists.  I have tried making chaptis once with buck wheat and once with wheat - didn't like them that much, but had no idea if they were done properly or not - they were very crunchy - but palatable.

I have just started making the patties from Annie Phyo's sunburgers, and they are pretty yummy dehydrated ohyeah , even though Annie says u don't have to dehydrate them.  I took them to a veggie feast at work and everybody (non raw foodists) ate one and asked me what was in them etc.

I also just tried the dehydrated nori snack from the raw pleasure free recipe book and these are a keeper - only made up 4 nori sheets worth (as I hadn't soaked enough sunflower seeds), took them to my nieces party and they were eaten by my sisters, mum and one brother in law (none raw or vegetarian) there are none left, so I will definitely be making these again this week - but I have just put another batch of sun patties and a little bread/cracker on - onion bread this time so don't know how it will turn out.

The only thing is, I feel like all I am doing after work at the moment is soaking seeds, homogonising them, dehydrating them, and washing up. I have also had to set my alarm to get up in the middle of the night  yawn to turn some crackers over.  I quite enjoy it but I'm not getting much else done.

I suppose I will get it down to a better "art" soon and become more organised with it!  crazy

yahh   I use my Ezidry dehydrator a few times a month.  In the beginning I also set my alarm to check things in the middle of the night like you Jet.   Now I am more relaxed and leave things a bit longer or turn it off and resume drying a bit later.
As time goes by, raw becomes very simple, you will find that dehydrated snacks are not needed every day. Your body thrives on the fruit & veggies and your taste buds adjust.
What I make:  tomato crackers, semi dried tomatoes, powdered celery (only the celery leaves 2-3 hours on high, become crumbly, crush in your hands and you have celery seasoning!). Dried fruits and fruit leathers.  Occasionally I make nutburgers or cookies.

Hi Jet, I'd love to try the sunflower and flax seed recipe!
No way to getting up in the middle of the night, i'd buy a timer and have it turn off then flip in the morning and go from there!
With my craving for bread increasing I have made a couple of batches of bread, 1/4 or 1/2 recipes to experiment with. As i write this i have a batch of nuts dehydrating.  I have tried pecans which turned out fabulous and have on the list some "better than cooked bread", from the Gone raw, site to try.  I am also getting some sunflower seeds & pumpkin seeds ready to try.

When I get back from my fast I am working on the garden to prepare for organic toms so that i can dehydrate them.  The ones i buy currentl are from overseas and i'm not too keen on that. I have to go to the market to get the ones from South Oz.
Thanks sharing with me I have got a lot of ideas from every one, and I am keen to learn more and more about dehydrating - so please keep the ideas coming  Thanks again
Freshness to all-

I've just bought about 10kgs of strawberries from the markets for $18.   I am right now dehydrating them.  I've got both my dehydrators going and it smells like sweet strawberries as you come into the house....soooooooo sweet and dreamy!!!  And they're YURMMYYYYY when dried.  The kids adore them.

Luv

Hello

has anyone made many breads in the dehydrator

I have made them a couple of times, but don't know if they are turning out as they should (as I have never tried any other raw bread).

The first ones were very basic chapatis from an Anne Wigmore recipe, virtually just sprouted wheat and buckwheat (tried 2 different ones), put them through the samson homogoniser, then shaped them into chapatis in the dehydrator, they seemed to taste pretty bland.

I tried again the other day, basing it on a recipe from the raw coach for a pizza base, but I only used a bit of tomato (she says to use a couple and an onion), I did mix the sun dried tomato, basil, herbs  and oils with it though.  Karen says you can stop the dehydrating before it gets crunchy, but I found that it was hard on the outside and very much like raw bread on the inside unless I dehydrated it totally, so it is now quite chewy.

The recipe for the raw pizza base I mentioned is at:

Just wondered if other people make breads and what they are like.

I have not made many breads but have posted a thread that is entitled "bread recipe" which has some recipe and hints about making breads in the dehydrator.
My first bread was not dried long enough and it made me gag to eat it. There is an art to making breads that i have not yet fully learned.
A couple of things i have learned are listed below:

  • when making a successful 'bread' ensuring that the 'dough' is spread over the tray evenly then the bread dries evenly.
I have an ezy dry dehydrator and found if you buy the spare part teflex sheets from the excalibur dehydrator they can be cut to fit an ezydry tray, but basically they work the same as the white solid sheets any way.
Another tip for bread making is to invert the solid sheet onto a mesh sheet what i do is place the mesh sheet on top of the solid sheet and turn it upside down and gently help the dough the separate from the sheet.  It is important to spray the solid sheets with oil or oil them to allow easy separation of the dough.

I have also posted a bread recipe that i like in the bread recipe thread.  If you go to Gone Raw and type in Breads or crackers there are heaps of recipes to choose from.  I think it is really a bit of trial and error.  I simply make up 1/4 or 1/2 recipes when experimenting then if i have to chuck them out not much is lost.
good luck - love to hear how you are going
