Excellent idea rawconnection!
I too am thinking it'd be great to have something like that locally as well as the oxfam one.
Wouldn't it be great to gift some lovely heirloom fruit trees and maybe plant them where people (especially those on a low income) frequent wherever we live?
Have you ever heard of geurilla planting? People go and plant local native plants in public areas without council permission, helping to keep endemic native species alive in the area.
Currently I'm growing some calistemon seedlings on my desk at work. I'd be happy to swap these for some heirloom fruit seedlings from seed when they've grown.
I was thinking of something along the lines of continually growing seedlings on my desk (it makes me happy to see something living there) and placing them outside my house on the nature strip with 'free to good home' on them. Wouldn't cost me much at all...
