I wish the poll worked on here, as would love to find out your thoughts on this:

http://www.smh.com.au/news/parenting/high-heels-for-babies/2008/09/17/1221330914719.html

Do you think it is fun and harmless?

Or do you think that serious concerns should be raised about the message it is sending?

On one hand I think it is cute but on the other I think it is just plain silly.

And I feel it may send the wrong message that you "should" look pretty and perfect at all times, no matter what your age. A bad habit for youngsters to get into I think.

The website says they are not for walking on but for 'laughter inducing fun.'

Eh???  uhuh uhuh uhuh uhuh

Do we  need to make our girl babies figures of fun?
What is there to make our boy babies this hilarious?
Since when is being born a female funny, anyway?

Or are we just a baby step away from good old fashioned foot binding?

*gnashing of teeth*

*more grumblies*  nope nope nope

I had a quick flick through the website that actually sells this stuff.

Kudos to them as they donate money to 'women's charities', although not sure which.

But what REALLY churns my burn is the assumption that this quite trite and useless fluff is 'girly'.

(*getting on my soapbox now*) Sad

I'm a girl and I HATE the pink/satin/sequins/zebra stripe/lacey/feathery stuff unless I'm poking fun at it!

Girly is SO MUCH MORE than this!

(*I'll shut up now...*)

if we are 'poking fun at something',whats that say about us? just my 5 cents worth....

i was raised as a tomboy...in hand me downs and overalls, and one sunday best dress..gum boots and roman sandals....and yet instinctively i was drawn to pretty, furry wools,in pinks and pretty pretty ribbons and girly stuff and teetering hi heels...even before i saw a vogue or marie clair....all mum ever got was an english womans weekly, and what they wore in there was kilt skirts and button up shirts(and im talking about the women, lol)

i think we are born with the desires we carry out in life, whether clothing or partner choices or food choices or physical activity choices....some are manufactured and or carefully nurtured  desires and directions....but ultimately what im getting at is....whether it is in our face from an early age or not, really isnt going to make too much or a difference to choices that we end up making!

of course each of us has our reasons for feeling strongly about things....i think its good to look deep within and ask the question "why?" though.............if someone peeves you that much,is it because they are holding a mirror up to you?

i love to ask myself these questions, helps to keep me grounded....

I Agree - how rediculous, where will it end up, will the parents put them on their children when they can walk - ohh the back problems this will create, and there are some people out there that it is sooo important to be up with the latest fashions no matter what it does to the body!!!

Oh, I am not poking fun at anything. I just often wonder what they will think of next.

I suppose it depends on the age of the child. Whilst high heels for baby girls are considered fun, I bet lacy G-strings for a three year old would cause a national outrage.

High heels are mainly used for the purpose of showing the female form off in a sexy sensuously way, as are G-strings.

I too was drawn instinctively to pretty, pinks, ribbons and girly stuff. And enjoyed playing dress up by teetering around the house in my mums high heels when I was seven years old. But I was making my own choice to do that role playing, it wasn’t being forced upon me by a fashion conscious trendy mother.

Whatever will they think of next.............a red leather studded codpiece for baby boys perhaps  laugh
