When did you do so with your little ones? Would love to hear some stories!

I am giving Jarrah a little fruit here and there which he seems to LOVE! I thought I would fully breastfeed longer but am just going with what his flow...he's nearly 7 months old now. He gets it all over him just eating from my fingers whole fruit! gotta go!

Both my girls started solids at 4 months. Gummy, dribbly, gorgeous!

They were both very hungry, eating too much milk and wanting more, but I suspect this was due to their food intolerances.

I started both on mushed fruit and mushed avocado. Yum. They scarfed that down! My first I also gave ricef lkaes of the most benign sort, but I don't trust the food processing anymore, so number 2 has coconut flour mixed with her fruit mush, which she loves. Her fav brekkie is mushed strawberries, banana, and coconut flour. (She is 13 months old).

Number one is requesting more and more avocado (she is 5). I am VERY proud!

Both girls get broccoli - I chop up the heads until they are very tiny. Lots of calcium. I don't think they notice!

The best (and worst) is the food on face syndrome. Dribble dribble dribble. I love it. Wait until Jarrah grabs the spoon and tries feeding himself. You will love it!

Hope all is well,
cheers, Niqi

my first wasn't really interested in trying foods till 1yr.  then she'd have bits of whatever i was having, starting with juices, smoothies, chewing on whole fruits/veg.  Loved dried seaweed, tomatos, anything really.  Her earliest meals were often blended, then later i would process her greens for salads.

my second child wanted to do what everyone else was doing, but not much interested in the process of swallowing till around 6 months.   Before he first started to crawl, i would sit him on the ground while we were gardening and he'd rip off green leaves - whole spinach stalks, wild celery, spring onions, herbs, anything, and chew them all up.  No matter how spicy or bitter the greens, he'd sit there quietly and shred up the garden, spitting out the pulp!  I have noted with both the children that from birth they had no judgement around bitter/spicy/strong foods, but that they have gradually learned this in time from others.  Still, the other day my 2.5yr old was bold enough to eat a millipede Undecided

I used to give him blended avo/greens/herbs  soup, whole fruits, & during our Darwin times he loved all the fruits & fresh coconuts.  With the business of life with 2 i rarely got around to preparing him special meals, so i just presented a variety of foods and he does his own thing.

I always 'let' them try whatever they wanted, and never worried about the choking thing - they explored eating in their own way and soon understood textures, chewing, swallowing, foods and non-foods.  Just my experience, not recommending either way!

With James, who's now two, I started him on mushed banana at six months because he was mimicking everyone else's eating actions, lol.  I kept him on this for a couple of weeks, just small amounts and then progressed to avo and did the same with this.  I didn't combine foods for quite some time because I think mono meals for infants are best for their digestion.

Awww I can imagine all these little ones munching their way through lush fruit and greens and my heart is warm Smiley

Jarrah's favourite fruit is banana at the moment (or as I sing banananananananana!) but he didn't take to it straight away. He can now get through one a day! I had planned to fully breastfeed for longer than I did but as Jarrah became very passionate about wanting to have the fruit I was eating I just let him have what he seemed to want. As everything went in the mouth I figured it may as well be something edible! He first started gnawing on things like celery but then juicy foods like oranges. This seemed like a "full-on" food to begin with but he didn't seem to suffer just loved it! Persimmon was next which is perfect sweet baby mush! He is now very into bananas and avocados, and gnawing or shredding greens and stalks of parsley and vegetables like fennel and celery.

He gets so excited about bright, interesting colours and textures of beautiful fruit and greens. It's entertainment for him. I love giving him whole foods and he loves it much more than something mashed up.

Jungle I cant believe Jarrah is 7 months but I suppose Islie is now 3 and half months wow time flys when you are having fun.

If you look through the preg raw food section you will find lots of stuff from Dragonfly Emi (I know she has changed her name I think it is Savvy women or Savvy Savvy something like that *appoligies Emi I cant remember of the top of my head*) her little boy she gave raw too and it was/is very insperational what she has done with him. So do a search and you will find heaps of great information.

Sophie is now 6 months, and i havent given her any food yet, even though she seems like she wants to grab what I am eating. I am conscious of starting solids later on, to reduce the incidence of food intolerances and allergies etc   X

Arwen is 11 months, I offered her puréed fruit with abit of green in at 6 months but she wasn't swallowing and have tried each month since. She is now swallowing but not very interested. She likes to suck and bite pieces of apple and taste other pieces of fruit in her bowl before throwing them and the bowl on the floor. So we are still on 98% breast milk which she is doing fine on.

Thanks for replies!

After a bit of soul searching I realised that I believe it is better for Jarrah to be having mainly breastmilk still. I had been feeling pressured to introduce solids, but deep down I believe bmilk is best! So he's back on the boob, just getting stems of greens to chew on sometimes...see how we go! He's goin real good...two weeks in sun in qld and he is a tanned little blonde, toothy, crawling dude! xo
