Hey Everyone...

I've decided I'm going to try and move from regional SA, to either Adelaide or Queensland. Ive already had a look at the school of natural medicine in adelaide, and was wondering if anyone knew of any natural health related education/work in queensland. If anyone knows of any work or education related in that area, can you post about it? Anything in the natural health/Vegetarian/Vegan/Raw food realm. Im ready for a new adventure...

In my reply to Jen, I mentioned a guy buy the name of John Fielder. He runs a 4 year course in Natural Living from his health retreat farm up near cairns.

Apparently the course encompasses;
Raw Food - Anopsology (Instinctive Eating) - Solar Therapy - Hydrotherapy - Organic Foods - Organic Farming and Gardening - Fasting - Exercise - Natural Psychotherapy - Counselling. Incorporating the History - Philosophy - Practice of Natural Hygiene - Nature Cure - Biogenic Living

It sounds as though it would be a really enjoyable 4 years, living 'on campus' i.e. on the farm, as he would probably have fresh organic veggies growing along with the many tropical fruits of the far north coast.

However I would be cautious about how the course is recognised by the various alternative medicine and nautropathy associations of aust. As its not a proper university as such.

Anyway, all the contact details are on the website, www.iig.com.au/anl

Cheers,
Paul

hi stranger!

i'd probably recommend John Fielder's ANL in North QLD too. I've been "gunna" and wanna" and "justabout-tado" that course for years. pretty soon i'll actually get around to saving some money for the course instead of just talking about it. i've spoken to john on the phone and read many of his posts on various chatlists etc and have the utmost respect for the man and his work.

or - due to the fact that there are so few raw/health work options currently available - start your own enterprise. piers and sheryl did. now we need more.

good luck....

Starting a health food/raw business would be great, but i think i would make a better worker rather than a boss. I usually work better that way. Do sheryl and piers need an extra pair of hands??  cheesy

john feilder is a top bloke. and into dairy.

as a vegan police officer i run into difficulties with this.

i too wished to pursue a 'career' in the natural health. i found it best to go straight to the healthiest people you can find and listen, read, look and question what they are doing. dr douglas graham has been a hardcore raw vegan athlete for around 27 years.

he has resutls i want. so i copy him! just like the olympic athletes i train with. copy, cut and paste!

the most successful healer i know works underground with death threats from the AMA. he is not materially focused and has helped many overcome any disease you can imagine. he rates raw  vegan even though he is not one himself.

if you want to help as many people as possibe i reckon one way is become a beacon of health yourself and then go from their.

the place in brisy of natural medicine is into animal products.

i studied nutrition at a government institute. i had to 'lie' to pass the test.

i reckon raw-pleasure is a fine example, they provide foods, events, cds, books, forums etc. infact i do not know of ANY BUSINESS, GOVERNMENT OR PRIVATE WHO IS DOING AS MUCH AS A SERVICE AS THESE GUYS.

im not bad mouthing or putting down other peoples efforts. any effort ,no matter how small helps.

but if you want to know where the RAW VEGAN heart is beating from. you are here.

and its by firm belief based on my own conclusions that nothing betters the planet , animals, ourselves and each other than adopting an intense magical raw  vegan lifestyle.

ok im off to a raw meet over the kuranda range by bike. smashing the mountains pumped on cane juice!

Good post durainrider...

I've been looking around at what's on offer in terms of Nutrition & Natural Health..and in my (limited) search so far...nothing has really struck a chord with my raw/vegan beliefs.

I think it's too "radical" (ie too much against vested interests in the food & health industries) to get much of an airing.  Raw vegan is also such a 'self sufficient' lifestyle, - I agree that learning by doing and listening is the best way (at the moment at least...)

I don't want to pay money to do a course, where I have to pretend I agree with half of it, or block my ears, shut of my sensitivities to finish it...

I would like to expand my Raw book library though...(it'll happen...)

whilst i follow a vegan lifestyle, i'm not going to close my mind to others who don't. i'm searching for knowledge through people with an open mind, patience, integrity, honesty and personal experience. the course offered by john fielder appears very comprehensive, backed by years of personal experience. the fact that he personally consumes small amounts of dairy does not concern me - i can still choose not to. but to ignore his other knowledge for one detail, i think i would be the one missing out.

in the process of acquiring knowledge/study, i think you should look/listen to all available sources and then discern your own truth from a range of opinions. don't filter out things before you've actually looked at them, or they're not exactly perfect as you would like. take the bits that suit you and leave the rest.

i'm not trying to stick up for john or be argumentative - just pondering out loud.......

how very true.

infact ive learnt some of the best life advice from people who ridiculed my lifestyle. i never write anyone off, but filter information and use what i can.

like a cd. 20 songs but only 2 or 3 that vibe with you. i disagree with some things david wolfe says, but he has had a profoundly positive impact on my life and millions more.

i think its about asking yourself what you want, and seeking information and experience from those that have it.

for me travel , training and meeting positive crew that are making a difference in the world is the path i desire.

i study every day, reading, experimenting, listening, questioning and answering.....

i seek the healthiest , happiest people on the planet and look at what they are doing. and how they got there. so far i have not seen any course at uni that has anything that i want personally.  therefore i avoid wasting time on things that i truly dont want to do.

thats what works for me.

i enjoy working part time in the bike shop, riding my bike around australia and the world, trying new foods everyday, living a minimalist lifestyle, meeting inspirational people, spreading the raw vegan gospel, training hard, sunworshipping, sleeping, spending hours in nature, plugging into the massive vitality of raw plant food electricity and seeing how much fun, joy, magic , love, intensity my body can handle before it biologicallly transmutates into a durian!

i think lifes about doing what you truly want to do, being who you truly are.

Im still very undecided on what I want to do. Thanks for the replies everyone. The main thing I know I have to do is move, at least for a while, to see different things, different people. To experience more Smiley

I wonder if any people have done (or thought about doing) a Phd on Raw Food? Given the diversity of raw beliefs, I think it'd be inevitable that any formal course would contain some content that most of us would disagree with. Raw entrepreneurs run the risk of marginalising themselves out of a market...
