At Tree of Life www.treeoflife.nu they do a formal approved Masters Program in raw food nutrition. Haven't heard of a PhD. I suppose you would study a wide range of things, then focus in on a specific area of research. Most university people I know study a very narrow piece in great detail.

It would be quite good to have someone with that level of information, from a credible source the average person would trust. It would just need to be done somewhere congruent that taught a wide range of things relevant to raw. Not the average... "you have to be careful because cooking released nutrients... see the example of lycopene" that comes out so often in popular media.

I would love to see Piers do the Tree of Life Masters... we have talked about it.

Cheers,
Sheryl

id love to do the tree of life course one day, its the only one that resonates with me. or stay with storm and jingee for a time. but apart from that courses that im after arent out there. unless u want to study somethin that is already there and tweak it and trailblaze ur way with ur rawfood ideas. which can be done and is being done, like RNJ - she's doin a great job. and sheryl and piers stickin their necks out to get a raw food business underway. unfourtunately the foundations havent been firmly laid everywhere, but they are. the options now are to tackle it and start ur own or find someone thats started somethin already and help with that growth. id like to do the latter if it came along, im a good worker, not so good boss Tongue if not im happy to do anythin and be an example of what a vegan mainly raw fooder is about. so theres can be negative and positive in that post, but lets just say its positive, positive :D

hope thats a fairly well rounded, mature, grounded answer cos im all over the shop at the moment. id love to be a hermit, but then theres always that good chance ill just go mad on my own  rolleyes

I've actually considered a Phd in raw food (people have done Phds in surfing, why not raw food?).. it wouldn't really have any use, of course... just an excuse to do a higher degree in raw related area.

lots of positions for people of different compositions..this raw world is full of abundance..
raw chef, fitness and health trainer, emotional support person, fasting supervisor, author, film maker with a 300$ handicam, world fruit gourmet traveller..or just make up a position that hasnt arrived yet.

hermit is great to do, but best a few hours a day, or maybe a month or 2 out in the wilderness. cos we need to save the world and get the message out and for us to be living examples people can see and talk too. just like our teachers were. so its up to us to continue the positive examples and keep crank'n out the good vibes.

being in the riverland, you are the only person into raw foods i know of. imagine what an impact you can have on your community if you start kick'n ass in the sport of your choosen field or whatever hobby you enjoy.

Hi CG...I'll throw my pennys' worth into the ring.

I started a Naturopathy/Herbal medicine/Nutrition etc course ealier this yeah and dumped it (An 11 thousand dollar error in judgement). I bailed out because I didn't like what I was being forced to learn and in particular how I was being forced to learn it. I considered it a form of brainwashing and have always considered mainstream education in that light. My mistake was thinking that studying Alternative Medicine would somehow be any different. I had to weigh up putting up with that for 3 years full-time (just to reach Advanced Diploma Level) for a piece of paper and "recognition"...it didn't balance for me.

So if you choose to go down that path and that expense you have to weigh up that for yourself and have a clear focus of what you want to achieve after you have jumped through all the hoops.

I looked at John Fielders course and it resonated more with me than the more mainstream ones...but I don't think it's recognised...which may or may not be important...depending on your goals.

The best chance of being "successful" and happy is to find something you REALLY want to do....something that resonates with you deeply. Affirmations and meditation can be usefull tools  to help you discover the answer.

While this may sound obvious (find what you really want to do), most people put more thought and effort into buying a new car than what they want to do for the rest of their lives.

Viva La ZAP!

I'll always ask myself befor i have to make a choiche in life:

why do i want to do that? what is the real reason for such a choice? is it my heart that wants to do that or is such choice taken because of a outcoming circumstance, speak social pressure, familiar influence, lack of selfesteem, happiness etc. etc.

I know that we and many people wants to help others and heal this planet but in my view the real healer of the future will be a person of humbleness, openess, selfish desire, purity and with intuitive and both analitic intelectual knowledge.
i guess that for such skills you don't have to go really to a reconized University or school for a diplome, even if it can be very advisable...

The main thing behind such questions is in my opinion: how do I go to a University, how do i come out - why do i go there, how do i want come out...

We often can realize that behind the idea or aim to help others there is really a trap of Our Ego who feels the need to 'become' something 'ufficially'...

I don't want to say that going to the Tree of Life would be a bad experience at all because after all the Tree of Life is a 'different school' in my view...,
but we should anyway not except that once out from there we can answer every question beyond raw-food and health and every door is open for us... (i guess nobody does hopenly)

the 'real' experience life gives to us, speak the difficulties, obstacles, etc.etc., are  the best challenges and occasion to grow over the circumstances of our Life after all and become strong, then we can go to every University and become Master more easiliy not?...

That's just my opinion and thought...

I am studying my bachelors of health science in nutritional med at the australian college of natural medicine.  There are heaps of people studying naturopathy there as well and I know there head campus is in Queensland.  It is ok, find the western influence a bit hard to get my head around sometimes, way to clinical, but then have also met some amazing people there too.  Hope that helps

The course I am looking at doing is a Diploma of Natural Hygiene with Arcadia Centre in Sydney. See http://www.alecburton.com/. It is a correspondence course and recognised by Natural Hygiene institutions world wide apparently. As soon as my baby is a little older and I have some more time on my hands that is the course I plan on doing.

Hey CG
I started my 4 year Degree in Naturopathy at the start of this year. and I love it!

I guess half the reason is that its a private college in the Boambee valley, just west of Coffs Harbour.. got a pretty choice medicinal herb garden & lots of fruit tree's. - so its not like a university at all!

The teachers here are pretty switched on & always emphasize raw food.

but after starting this course, you gradually begin to realise that all the books & internet articles you read on nutrition, raw food, whatever, doesn't really compare with what you study throughout the course.

Sure, the focus isn't always on raw foods, but when its still relevant & important fundamental knowledge.

Cause when it comes to treating 'average' people - you can't only tell them to start incorporating more raw food into their diet - it just doesn't cut it. They ussually have serious nutritional & immune deficiencies to balance, & that requires herbal extracts & quality nutritonal supplements.

But thats if you wanna be a practitioner

Anyway, my thesis will probably be on the treatment of Cancer - as that's what i want to specialize in when my brother & I get our health retreat going. (my bro's studying Acupuncture & Traditional Chinese Medicine - which really clashes with raw food! but you can't ignore the Chinese, they've been doing this for 3000 years!)

Cheers,
Paul

Hey Paul,

Something interesting I just read this weekend, is that what TCM is has been hugely corrupted by the West and changed over the last few centuries. I read a thread recently that the original TCM heavily promoted raw (one of many changes) and that the whole cooked part of it was a modern invention. It would be interesting if you or your brother could get your hands on some of that material! Most people that study TCM have no idea.. and I'm just sharing what I've read third hand... so am not sure of it's validity. Worth checking out though.

i can just see the chinese monk after 10 hours training on their praying mantis kung fu. in a mountain stream under a persimmon tree or jujube tree. drinking the stream water and stretching against the tree and thanking it for the meal.

i cant see the monk disect the mantis, cut the tree down to cook the mantis legs and then boil the fruit and drink the astringic skin tea.

western white man whom invents companies like monsanto to trick the masses..yeah i can see that! lol!

many say the asians were the first raw fooders, some say the blacks. all that matters is we turn the whole world raw to restore sanity.

nature-path'er- to follow the path of mother nature.

living water found in raw plant foods, thats the transformative element.
