I have been doing 80/10/10 for a month now and am loving it!

(Including gaining a little much need booty/weight)

I do keep track of my intake to make sure I am giving myself enough energy daily.
I
just had a look then and realised that my calcium intake for today sits at around 109% !!

Wow .. and I was worried about my bones before.
- Especially since being in recovery from bulimia.

I feel very relieved and grateful. I suppose that it just proves that you don't have to be harming innocent beautiful creatures in order to sustain your own life.
The dairy and meat industries would have the masses believe otherwise.

thats great!

having lots of greens and (ripe) fruits you get very alkaline hey and need less calcium to neutralize acids in body...

would interest me to see an example of your daily or weekly intake...

Hey kebbster. I'm not the only one being friendly with the midnight oil then? I think there is calcium information in green for life. But my copy is in the office and I'm not going out there right now. Damned freezing! I'll have a look tomozz... or later today if you like!

I would still be cautious of calcium intake. I have borderline osteoporosis and no matterhow much raw calcium foods i eat my bones still crack and painfully bend, i still have to take calcium tablets. However i have given into dairy a couple of times and it makes my bones even more worser then raw calcium. With raw calcium i need to consume more and when i do i feel better. Because im sensitve to my back illness i feel it alot more then healthy people would.

i may be wrong so somebody please correct me if i am but other minerals like magnesium and silica i think, are important for strong bones if not more important than calcium? david wolfe spoke about excess calcium in the diet being bad. rawconnection, are the calcium tablets you're taking organic calcium? i'm not big on supplements if they because i've heard they're not the kind of mineral that is really absorbed by the body in most supplements.

It would also be interesting to see what inhibits or helps the absorption of calcium. I've not many clues about this stuff I'm afraid. I've read about it but the brain will not retain!

I know that you can absorb calcium from outside the body not just through food.  Some kind of bath...  Similar to how magnesium deficiencies are more quickly addressed with an epsom salt bath than more magnesium eaten/taken in supplements.  I'd have to get back to you regarding what its called, unless anyone else here knows???

Lol, yes i defo burn the midnight oil frequently, been sleeping terribly of late.

I do know that calcium needs vit d to absorb properly, so sunlight = good  cool

Apart from that i know things increase calcium requirements, like smoking, too much coffee.

Also, with osteoporosis weight bearing exercise is the most important thing for prevention, more so than calcium intake.

Ive read that about magnesium being more important too. I question the RDIs for calcium a little, looking at how much is in yoghurt for example, the consumption of dairy would have to be really high every day to get enough. Hmmm, makes me really wonder on what the human body really needs. Is that requirement more because people have diets too high in protein? I know high protein diets increase calcium needs as well, because excess protein must be excreted, but to do that the body needs to excrete calcium too, therefore increasing requirements. So if someones protein intake was triple what was needed on a daily basis its probs not too unreasonable to think that their calcium requirements might be as much as triple too.

Would certainly be an interesting thing to study, but who would fund it lol, and no doubt the dairy and meat industry would rally against it hahaha.
