saw a DVD recently of a quite Artistic Farmer (farmer and hilarious artist - LOL ) in the USA (midwest) who had gone trough 'hell' in his life but miracously resisted and converted his one-time lost farm to organics , then applied biodynamics , and later transformed the place into a CSA , short for Community Supported Agriculture.

What does that means...?

it means Families buy a “share” (invest in $ and Unique of the harvest and, in return, receive weekly deliveries during the growing season. In his example more than 1,400 families (in northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin - near Chicago) get their fresh produce from the Farm.

Young families with children picking and harvesting the products , delivering in boxes the organic products in cities and lots of nice people living more communal , simply and healthy , organic...
The farm had the highest rate of people employed in his community (that actually was against him all the time) , harvesting somehting like 3 tonnes of vegetable per day!

the farmer actually was here in Byron promoting the DVD at the Community Center one year or less ago:

for more information visit: angelicorganics.com
check for a movie called : THE REAL DIRT ON FARMER JOHN

I imagine very well that a similar situation could come up here in Australia in next years , places like the Gold Coast for example could invest a percentage (in part work / part money ) in surrounding Farms (TWEED - BYRON) and get supplied weekly fresh organic products.....

Just a speculation... to feed the Vision... :-)

Sounds like a fantastic situation for all involved! I had an idea to put my food-growing dream into place while renting with little garden room...when it is coming into spring garden preparation time here in Tassie I could seek, through notice boards, word of mouth and other vechiles a backyard to "rent" to grow food. I could "pay" in food I grow. I think this is a great idea and wonder if it happens already? Yesterday I purchased a wonderful self-published book written by a man who lived in Oregon in the USA for most of his life as a seed-producer and gardener. He has lived in Tasmania for 10 years now and because the climates a pretty much mirror identical he has written an extremely extensive book about growing food in Tasmania. It is so fantastic to have really regional information about food growing. Yay!

Thanks for sharing Ivan Smiley

That's beautiful Iv. One of my friends tried to do something similar up here and the town planner somehow disallowed it. But what a fantastic idea. I love it. I would love to see that DVD.

Well it sounds great BUT if Codex is passed, it will actually be illegal to run Community Supported Agriculture or anything similar.

Lots of work to do... hey...
the Community Gardens are kind of bought in Byron Bay and there are many more things coming up , things going on here... i'll keep posting in the right section anyway...

Jungle , theres a guy who wrote a book called: Square Food Gardening... Mel Bartholomew ... i'm sure it may interest you having a look at his website for inspiration... i remember that there was a section in his book (read it once in NZ) where he explained how to make wintergardens and grow even in very cold climates for many more months longer using old fridges , draws,...
At home (soon moving) I made a similare using an old piece of furniture (for clothes etc.) and filling it with lots of compost and mulch... very central and northfacing, perfect winterspot , and good growing...

will post a picture....

here a link...

http://www.squarefootgardening.com/

i may be able to double the DVD for you RS...?!

indoors Rudolph?

heres the pic of the garden box... if your in cold climate you could use a glass-window to cover in night or cold days making greenhouse effect... (making all higher)

i guess having 4-5 of this recycled cloth boxes would become very efficient on the food-budget... and pretty easy to mantain = no weeding and minimal caring...

well said Rudolph ,

remember also Grandma harvesting lettuces and veggies in her greenhouse (in summer mostly) at 1800+m altitude... fresh and crispy temperature there even in summer LOL!

nowadays she lives with Grandpa in a different part of the mountains , yet still having a bio-garden!

you Old-Grumpy Rudolph are right : lets get the hand in the dirt...& switch off the PC LOL...
