hi Jet
i am still new to Raw and have been raw for only 100 approx days, it is the only bread so far that i have found that i like. I dried it a lot longer than what the receipe recommended, till it was quite crunchy. I have a couple more recipes that i want to try when i get home again. (have been away for 9 days). I tried another by Igor Butenko and did not dry it long enough and i gagged trying to eat it, it was good in flavour, but mushy on the inside, and yuk. Sometimes the drying times i find are really just a guide any way, so dont be afraid to dry longer.
I have almost concluded that we cannot replace the bread we have all grown to know and love in a raw food place, but to find something pleasant both in texture, colour and flavour, that you can spread things onto that tastes nice is a good substitute. A lot of the recipes have a lot of oil in them, i shy away from them and prefer to look for recipes that dont. I think that all linseeds is too much, i prefer to have a mixture of sunflower and other seeds with them as well, i like salt so i always add salt, may be one day i wil loose this desire, but not yet, one step at a time for me. There a lots more thiings that you can add and the list is endless. I always make 1/2 or 1/4 recipe when trying it out so if it does not work out i just chuck it and dont feel like i am wasting so much food. Tried some sprouted wheat the other day and yuk, needs a great deal of improvement for me too. I do like essene bread which is strictly not raw but a very satisfying substitute for normal bread.
The bread recipe is from the Gone Raw Site. Joining is free, visit and type breads, a huge range of breads comes up crackers and the same happens. You can create your own profile, recipes can be saved to your box and new recipes are added by members daily. A very good site. Below is my
Cracker recipe. I soaked 1 cup flax seeds (1/2 light 1/2 dark) overnight in another bowl soaked: 1/2 c sunflower seeds & 1/2c pumpkin seeds and a couple tablespoons of sesame seeds for 4 hours. Then mixed them all together then added 1/4 c lemon juice; into the blender i put about 3/4c of the mixture above along with 1 granny smith apple and blended till smooth then I added 2 destsp of agave and a salt to taste. Then spread them onto the dehydrator and they seem to be quite delicious before dehydrating. They have a sweet/sour taste. I just find the flax on its own a bit too hard for my tummy to handle. I dehydrated them till they were crisp, then in order to make sure they kept for a while i dehydrated them another 12 hours. These are yummy for me to nibble on with salads and with dips Hope this helps regards Frangipanni
