Hi everyone I'm new to raw foods and this forum.

Can raw foods such as seeds, nut butters, raw soups, raw hummus, almond milk ect be frozen? Or does this destroy them? I've read of people storing their nuts in the freezer as to make them keep for longer. Is this a good or a bad idea? Anyone with experience?

personally myself i wouldn't freeze raw soups, nuts i'm not sure, hummus i wouldn't but almond milk you can i think because in raw food real world i remember reading about places selling frozen nut milks. i freeze fruit for smoothies often but i wouldn't thaw it and use it like it was fresh. anything with high water content will usually burst eg greens. i'm sure somebody will be able to answer your questions more fully soon. as a rule of thumb though fresh is best, freezing can somewhat deactivate enzymes.

I have friends who buy their nuts wholesale up to $800 at a time and keep them in a big freezer. It's great. I've frozen raw pies but not almond milk.

You would get a small amount of enzyme loss I'd imagine but it shouldn't be a lot.

Tora Chan! Great to see you! Are you coming to the Brissy or Byron picnics? It would be great to catch up. Also there's a pot luck at my place later this month. Better do a post for that tomorrow. Hmmmm.

What did you mean by high water content food bursting? The cells?

By cells freezing I imagine he does mean exactly that. Like if you freeze a strawberry the water expands and breaks the cell wall. That's why when defrosted the strawberry is soft and you have strawberry juice leaking out! That same cell wall would break during digestion so our bodies can pull nutrients from the food.

I've known many people that make up raw pizzas and main courses even ahead of time and freeze them. Piers and I keep extra nuts and seeds in the freezer, and do buy frozen berries... that's about it though. We tend to make things as we need them. I love the idea of having things ready for moments when that's not possible though... I've just never organized myself to make that happen.

Our 'fast food' is usually fruit, veggies sticks in tahini, and handful of goji berries or something similar!

I made Alissa Cohen's Calzone and it made a whole try which was too much for me (it is very very rich) so I froze it and have had a few pieces since and it is still perfect. I dont know about the enzymes etc but it still taste good.

I should really eat it ASAP cause I know it would be getting close to 6 months in there. Anyone for Calzone
