Dear all - having been almost raw since about April, I've been trying to find a raw food resort which my other half would be prepared to go to, to get healthy and fit and lose weight! Unfortunately it seems that even overseas the options are somewhat limited, simply because he wouldn't like anything "hippie"-like and wouldnt like to do any "alternative" activities - because he would have to feel like h'es having a real break from work and not spending lots of money to be punished or do "weird" activities, it would have to be a VERY nice "standard" resort with great locations, accommodation, activities and facilities, which has simply added a raw food package option.

Unfortunately, such a place seems barely to exist! E.g. the "Tree of Life" centre in Arizona is out, because it's too "hippie-ish" and not enough like a "normal" resort! Como Shambhala in Bali would be perfect, BUT there's a travel warning out for Bali right now, so he doesn't want to go there!

So, does anyone know if there is a "luxury" resort in Oz which will offer a fully raw-food option on its menu? This should be an exciting prospect for a chef, to prepare gourmet raw-food meals, you'd think! I was quite shocked to see that even Olivia Newton-John's resort doesn't offer raw food, even though she spends so much time in the US.

Maybe we'll just have to stay in villa accomodation (so I can prepare raw meals for us, although kitchen equipment and organic produce could be a real problem there) in a standard resort with a personal trainer and fitness program!

It's a real shame, because a stay in a "normal" resort would be the perfect way to introduce raw food to a much wider audience, people who would never try it otherwise - if they see their friends and relatives coming back form a holiday with a REAL "holiday glow", they'll be convinced!

(Oh, and did the Hippocrates centre close? However, I'm not sure if it had what he would regard as a suitable holiday resort atmosphere though!

Also, what about the Hopewood Centre - does anyone know if it is the sort of thing I'm looking for? Does it serve 100% raw food - is it gourmet enough to taste great even to a non-convert? What about teh accommodation and facilities?

Hello and welcome!

Yes the Hippocrates Centre has closed it's doors for retreats. And I am not sure of Hopewood. Perhaps a phonecall and you would know! Then you could tell us!

You can contact Leisa Wheeler who runs raw retreats at luxury locations around Australia. Her email is info@leisawheeler.com.au. She will be able to tell you when her next retreats are. I've heard quite a lot about them and it's all good.

Thanks very much for that suggestion, Jenergy - I'll look into it!
