"The seed and root beneath the Earth,
the willful, growing shoot...
the hopeful bud, the flow'ring blossom
turned to glowing fruit.

We thank the Earth who grew this food
from little bursting seeds,
and the Keeper of the Earth,
whose gifts fulfill our needs."

I just love this and had to share. It's such a perfect 'grace' for before meals. It's from a book called "Seven Times the Sun" by Seah Darian that Jennie (Jenergy) gifted me. It's a book on creating balance and joy in families with rituals to bring meaning to the day. It's gorgeous. Thanks Jennie!

apparently my great grandfather upon returning from church would say grace "eat till you bust god dam you".. i always thought this quite funny considering he was a southern baptist..

When you rise in the morning, give thanks for the light,
for your life, for your strength.
Give thanks for your food and for the joy of living.
If you see no reason to give thanks, the fault lies in yourself.

it is nice to take time and be thankful for our food...i agree...as one bought up with churchie parents,we said grace before we ate anything....sometimes we sang it//te he.......scary thing is,i still know all teh words to every grace sung...(burned into my brain i guess)

Les thats funny..

my brother use to say
"2,4,6,8...bog in dont wait"...that always got a giggle...could never close my eyes at the meal table with him around..cos id lose a precious lump of mashed potato or something(country fare when i was a kid...) you know meat and 3 veg....i was very excited when mum discovered salad making to a fine art, after she got her food processor...and no dressing....oh and steaming veg....very before her time, out there in the sticks..she was quite the sophistocate...

Barefoot in the snow white sand,
a bag of sea shells in her hand.
She finally found a paradise it seems."

Our 'thanks' is:
"Earth who gives to us this food,
Sun who makes it ripe and good,
Dear Earth and sun by you we live,
Our loving thanks to you we give"

Do I need to reference this now that I have put it in here? I have just gone to get the book from the bookshelf and its not there...just remembered I lent it to a friend!

The book is called "You are your child's first teacher" (can't remember the author's name)
