Just wondering if anyone has had any experience with Ion foot spas.  I just had one and it apparentely helps draw out toxins from the body.  I was looking at purchasing my own but did some research on the net and found some negative feedback on them.  Ie the change in the water isn't attibuted to the ions in the water.

I am not a scientist and have no idea whether I am being fooled or not.  Some insight would be great!!

Thanks
Annette

It is a bit of a scam....  Basically the colour is caused by whatever salts are in the water more than what comes out of your feet, the salts on your feet also have a bit of an impact on it, but drawing out toxins they don't do.  When you see displays at expos where everyone has different coloured water, it's usually just different amounts of salts  that have been added to the water, and if they are really trying to make it dramatic they will use different types of salts in different baths for various colours, or they can rely on the variations of sweat and gunk on the feet, but when you use one at home with a farily stable water supply with the one packet of salts you will get pretty much the same thing every time.

Having said all that, there can be benefits, BUT you would get pretty much the same benefits soaking your feet in a bowl of warm water with some epson salts that you would get soaking your feet in an expensive ionic foot detox bath with some epson salts.  Either of those will make you feel relaxed, you will absorb some magnesium through your skin which is a muscle relaxant.  A saturated epson salt bath  (when no more salts will dissolve) can have a LOT of benefits without the expensive electronic foot bath being required, you just won't get the colour changes.

thanks Melb.  I do have a normal foot spa machine at home so I will try putting some epsom salts in for the added benefits.

I am doing well.  Am finding my way back to high raw.  Winter is a bit of a killer but summer is round the corner it will be a breeze.

It is so GREAT to have you back posting on the forum.  Your thoughtfulness to all that post is so selfless even though you have your own issue that you are trying to sort through.

all my love,
Annette

I found a post on another message board about this topic.  I'm familiar with the poster and she is reliable... she said it's the gunk on the feet and did her own experiment, sweaty feet in shoes all day, so lots of gunk on both feet, washed one foot 3 times, really really really clean, removed all gunk, put clean foot in ion bath, went very very very light brown, hardly noticed the change. Changed solution in foot bath, took other foot out of sock, so it had been in the sock for 20min longer than the other clean foot, put one gunk covered foot in ion bath, went almost black almost immediately.  Same person was attached to both feet! Same person would presumably be detoxing the same out of both feet! Looks like the gunk had more to do with the colour than the feet!

This is really interesting, I had been looking into getting one because I had heard fantastic things about them and I really want to do some significant detoxing to help heal some issues...  I haven't had one personally but I guess that is always the best way to tell if something is working, does it make you feel better.  In the end I decided some of those chinese foot pads would be more cost effective and seems to do a similar thing, has anyone tried those???

I've got even less faith in the detox pads.  I've tried them after practically having them forced on me by a well meaning friend.  As far as I am concerned they did nothing.  They did change colour, they also change colour if you pour water on them.  Again it's the salts doing most of the colour changing.  I poured some distilled water (no salts) and they just went brown/yellow rather than black/brown.  The foot pads I had didn't expect any odd colour changes like green or red in the instructions, just varying shades of beige/yellow/brown/black, so not as sophisticated as the foot baths with salts containing more copper or iron to do the green or red colours.

As I mentioned before, mineral salt baths can help with detox.  If you want some 'visible' proof that something is going on you need an electric current to do that.  The other thing that might be contributing is faradic current, this is an EXTREMELY old fashioned form of electro-therapy.  Anyone got any links to wiring diagrams for the ion bath?
