I've been reading through the posts on these forums for a few weeks now, and feel like I'm getting to know you guys. Learning lots from your experiences too. I was wondering what sort of occupations forum members have, and how you manage your raw food lifestyle when working? I teach remedial massage and have a somewhat irregular schedule. Between that and family commitments etc I'm busier than a one legged river dancer, and find it a bit tricky to maintain my intention to stick to a high raw eating plan.  crazy

lol hi Bobbi! Thanks for the giggle - I needed it, keep up that one-legged riverdancing!  snicker

I'm a stay at home mama of 2, so for me it's not too hard - except some evenings when things are hectic and i have the need to put everyone else before me...

I've not been in a position yet where I have needed to plan meals for being away from home for long periods, but i guess if you can look at meals that are nutritious, filling and easy to make whilst at home (like smoothies and juices), and just take fruit or veg (eg veg sticks, maybe even with an avo to dip them in) with you to work for breaks ( I always take apples and nanas on the road with me) this could make it a bit easier for you.
Hope this helps, sure there will be some more awesome tips from other members to help you along.

Have fun!
xoxo

I have not been eating raw foods for a long time, but In my busy lifestyle I find that being prepared is the only way.  I have done this for years and years, even when my kids were little.  Thinking ahead, planning for my sweet cravings, my savoury cravings and for the days i have not planned   laugh.  By this I mean that often i dont plan, so when i shop i always buy lots of fruit, to cater for when I am running or am hungrier than i thought i would be i always have fresh fruit on hand.  I take to work- bananas, pears, apples or some dried fruits and nuts to munch on, or, if i have had time to prepare (cut them up) them,  i will have other fruits for when i can sit such as mango and water melon.

Two nights a week, i prepare juices the night before, store them in the fridge and then make smoothies by adding banana and other stuff in the morning - blend, blend, blend whilst loading the car, pour it into tupperware then fly. Container goes under the tap for a quick rinse.   I travel 45 mins to get to work.
Other times i might get a salad prepared for lunch the night before, leaving the dressing off keeps it fresh take the dressing in either a glass or tupperware container.  I use tupperware 'cos it does not leak or the lids dont come off.  I also have an insulated bag with ice blocs in it to keep stuff cold summer or winter this is cleaned out and the night before as well, ready for the next day. Some times, I will even get everything ready and put it on the bench or in the fridge ready for the morning.  I get home at 8:00 pm (some times later) on Tuesdays & Thursdays and start work/swim at 7:00 am on Wed and Fri. depending onthe appointments.  I am up at 5:30-6:00 am most days as there is always stuff to do and i cant fit most of it in unless i do that. (I just love that time of the day any way, no phones, the world still sleeps on...)

I do a lot of SAD cooking for elderly reles (I call them "the Olds")and have found that the best time of the day for me to cook is early in the morning or I pick and nibble and nibble and eat all the stuff i am trying to avoid.  Also someone suggested, I think it was RGG, that i prepare a big plate of my favourite fruits/foods for me to eat during cooking time - great suggestion and it works.
I always have some flax/seed crackers on hand at home as i always want to nibble when i get home from work so I spread them with Avo and tomato or avo and munch onthem - one of my biggest down falls before raw, was butter - so i now eat some avo, no where near as much as i did butter though.
My fridge is never empty - i shop before i need to so that i never eat or am tempted to say there is nothing to eat.   I am even thinking of getting another fridge as space is rather pushed especially if i buy in bulk.
I also have plenty of variety and plenty of things that I like to eat that are easy on hand.  Things like raw macadamia paste that i stuff into celery and top with raisins.  Yummo, dried fruits and nuts etc.  I am more concerned with my health than with my weight though i needed to loose bout 15 kg when i started raw, now i need to loose 5 kg.
I am unable to get organics easily, so generally buy conventional produce.  I was trying to do all organics but found it was just too much stress and too hard for me at present so i get organic when i can, and other wise use conventional produce.
hope this rather long winded reply helps

Thanks Carmie. Being a SAHM is one of the biggest jobs on the planet!! You'd certainly need lots of energy!! Thanks for reminding me about keeping organised RGG and Frangipani. Most of the time I'm pretty reasonable with this, but sometimes things get fairly hectic, and in between the tightrope walking and the juggling, I get a bit overwhelmed and don't plan ahead as well as I could. You guys didn't say what you did for work and whether you work regular hours or not !?  dunno

Hi Bobi,
I am a hands in my own businesses.  My fixed hours of work are: Tues Thurs 3:00 pm - 8:00-8:30pm Wed & Fri: 7:00am - 1:00pm.  Monday afternoons, and Thursday mornings i babysit grandies, have a directors meeting and have office work to do.  Wednesday afternoon I take my granson swimming or take him to lessons.  Tuesday mornings I generally cook for 3-4 hours for the Olds, I start at 6:00 am as my resistance is strongest then.  I have preparation for my fixed hours of work.  I swim 3-4 times per week as well.  We also go away fortnightly so i have to be prepared and organised on wednesday night as i swim at 7:00 am Fridays we work thursday afternoons.  I take work with me as i get too far behind if i dont.  I also cook for the fishermen and for the Olds when I am away - so not much of a holiday for me really.  But I love to get away.  That is not all i do but a brief overview.  Time is always of the essence and eating raw is the easiest in this intance if i am held over longer than expected i will get some fruit from the f&v shop and just munch on that. Easy.
hope this helps you

I work in customer service/sales, and my office is right next door to the kitchen.

So I am constantly being bombarded with tantalising cooking smells.

It’s not too bad now we are heading into summer but my first raw winter was a huge challenge with my office reeking of other peoples cooking everyday ~ indian curries, chicken, chips & gravy, roast dinners, chinese takeaways, kebabs, hotdogs etc….

I don’t even like the taste of hotdogs but in the middle of a freezing cold winter when I was eating raw salads, the smell almost drove me insane with lustings and cravings.

Plus when people have birthdays, everyone walks past my office eating the cake and saying how gorgeous it is.

I don’t get offered cake because everyone knows I am not meant to eat it but often I succumb (and end up regretting it afterwards with stomach cramps) ............So yes, work it is an on-going challenge.

laugh  Hi Bobbi  -   I started my own healthy food workshop business!   At the moment it is part time till things pick up so for half the week I am in an office like Sweetpea, right next to the kitchen!   Boy can I relate to those cookings smells that come out of the microwave while people nuke their food.
I am organised, make my salad the night before when I go to the office job, prepare my fresh fruit in the morning.  Take lots of snacks like nuts, dried fruit, home made treats from the dehydrator.
The other half of the week I am organising my workshops so I only have good stuff in the house and am constantly trying out new raw recipes.
Eventually I will be able to resign from my office job and focus entirely on spreading the raw word, I can feel it coming...  in my raw bones..  lol
