Just wondering if anyone has a tried & tested c-o-c-k-roach deterrent?

We seem to have a number of them in the lounge room, bedroom, bathroom and kitchen.

Hate the thought of them crawling all over the fruit every night.

Last night I was just drifting off to sleep and I felt something around my hairline and face and then something trying to enter my ear.

Much flicking and torch waving later, I discovered a rather large roach on my pillow.

I tried to grab it but it scuttled off. I then had trouble getting to sleep with memories of the Sydney backpacker who had to have a large roach removed from his inner ear canal flashing through my mind. I was also paranoid about it entering my nostril.

Anyway in years past, I have either ignored them or sometimes used a commercial roach bait. The bait does not kill them outright but poisons them slowly. I have never liked this method for two reasons, firstly I don’t like the thought of it dying in a highly toxic state sooooo slowly by my own hand and secondly I am worried about it walking around and leaving traces of toxic poison on the food.

We are getting a dehydrator soon and I am worried about leaving it on all night and the roach entering it and walking over the food (don’t really want to find dehydrated roaches the next morning – puts a whole new spin on candied treats!)

There are loads of different natural roach deterrents on the internet, but I wonder if anyone here has any tried & tested methods?

Many thanks

* Spelling it c-o-c-k-roach is the ONLY way to get it past the RP censors  laugh

Thanks for your PM tip Sanghama.

Sanghama just supplied me with a very good idea for a roach deterrent but it involved non-raw and non-vegan ingredients.

Sanghama just brought up a very good point that I had not thought about before – sorry

Obviously some people here would feel uncomfortable suggesting a deterrent that involved non vegan produce. Also some vegans may disagree with killing roaches. Sorry I did not think of those aspects before I posted my question. I was just so desperate to get the bloody thing away from my ear and nostrils.

I haven't had to use anything for the past 2 years - we don't have them in this house.  I'm sure there must be some essential oils that would help deter them?  I know lemon oil works for spiders and there are some you can use sucessfully for moths and ant control etc.

Maybe you could try something like tea-tree oil or eucalyptus oil wiped around the skirting boards, kitchen cupboards, etc (be careful with paintwork though).  Does anyone else know?

I always use Space Clearing Spray in my house - I make it up regularly.  It helps to clear negative energies and raise the vibration of the area - maybe something like that would help?  Maybe that's why the roaches don't live here?  Who knows LOL

If you have any amethyst that helps clear energy as well, or program a clear quartz crystal to deter the unwanted guests.   Just a thought..... HTH
