Most of the time I have sweet green smoothies and sweet juices, but I find sometimes I want savoury.

I've never really experimented with savoury combinations, so if anyone could give me some ideas on what goes together, that would be very much appreciated.

 huh  Hello Rita,

I find that a savoury blend ends up being a soup for me!   Raw food recipes are so adaptable so if a particular sauce doesn't work out it becomes a soup.   If a smoothie isn't really a smoothies it becomes a dessert.

My favourite savoury blend which could be a drink too is tomato and avocado, they both go so well together with a pinch of sea salt and some soaked pitted dates with the soak liquid to break acidity.  Yummo.

So if you find some raw soup recipes, just adapt them into a smoothie by adding more liquid like coconut milk.

En.....  joybell.       laugh

Hi Rita,

A basic juice I made recently was just carrot, garlic and coriander. Was surprisingly lovely.

Another one I like is carrot, apple, celery, asparagus, salad greens, cucumber, mint, and my latest addition - red capsicum. I think the apple gives it quite a lift, but you could always experiment with quantities.

I'm waiting until I get a decent blender before I experiment again with savoury smoothies...

Hope this helps - happy juicing!
xoxo

i'm really keen to try a green soup recipe i saw that david wolfe makes or made he is always changing things constantly hard to keep up with. its made from blended greens, tomato, red pepper, celery, cucumber and a little avocado. i think it would be really tasty with the tomato and red pepper.

Hi tora chan,

A soup/savoury smoothie I've been making lately I posted in the meals and snacks recipe section. It is nice with greens like lettuce added to the basic recipe i posted. I have mucked around with it a bit the base now is oranges/orange juice and a few fennel greens, with any of: other greens, asparagus, cucumber, zucchini, avo, sundried tomato. I love savoury food too. Enjoy!

lots of lovely ripe toms

heaps of baby spinach

2-3 large stalks of celery

3 dates or an apple

you can have this thick or thin...makes a great sauce over spirilized zuchinnis

you can keep the toms and greens as a base
throw in a red capsicum and some coriander
and even some lime or lemon juice too

Sounds good RGG, would be yummo with orange in place of dates/apple too.

I found this 'generic experimentation guide', thanks to ck on Doug Graham's vegsource discussion board http://www.vegsource.com/talk/raw/index.html

my favs n basics are always take one or two from each of the following

acid or sub acid fruit(eg mango, orange, any berry or `s, pineapple, peach, nectarine, lime, lemon)
a non sweet fruit such as (tomato, cucumber, red pepper, ect)
and a mild herb if desired (basil, cilantro, parsley, mint, fennel, dill)
and lastly for a soup greens (spinach, romaine, redleaf, butter ect)

for more saltyness i start with celery or sundried tomatoes and blend fine, then add other ingredients.
most often i find i use tomatoes and celery with a hint of.......
and on ocasion add a few olives, avocado, hemp seed ect.
the options are endless, and experimentation and variety the center of fun. Most often i find the simpler the better 2-4 ingredients.

Tomato, celery and orange is a hit, thanks to Doug Graham for that. Also yummo over zucchini noodles (grated or vegetable peeler noodles of zucchini) Smiley Enjoy!!
