This week's goal - To eat my 5 & 2 each day. Weighed in at 75.5kg this afternoon with 10.5% BF.

Breakfast - Homebrand Muesli, raw sugar and lecithin (*wonders with tongue in cheek if raw sugar is*

Snack - Leftover jasmine rice with lebanese cucumber slices and slices of vege-smoke in two whole grain sandwiches

Lunch - 2 more of the above

Dinner - 1 tomato, some broccoli, 1 carrot sliced, some sliced mushroom, 1 torn sheet of nori, 1/4 red pepper sliced dressed with olive oil and balsamic vinegar. 200g lightly grilled tempeh with soy sauce.

Snacks. 3 cups green tea. Stein of so good essentials with akta-vite, a pear, handful of red grapes. 1 iron tablet.

Did I make my five and two? Two fruit, check. Five vegies, not quite.

Welcome Shinkin,

What are your raw goals? If you want to cut out cooked food and be raw then 2 pieces of fruit just won't cut it, the body runs on sugar (not table sugar) but fructose and glucose.  Put your stats into www.nutridiary.com and see if you are meeting your calorie requirements. Cooked food will always look more appealing if you are undercarbed.  Your day looks like about 1200cals, not nearly enough for your weight.  Are you wanting to maintain your weight? Specifics just help me help you.:-)

Hi Freelea,

For now, my goals are to boost my fruit and veg consumption. I've replaced white sugar, rice and wheat flour with less processed versions IE wholegrain and raw and feel that I don't eat enough fruit and veg to balance the amount of complex carbs that I eat.

Secondly, to get to around 70/30 raw to cooked each meal.

Heck, I definitely don't want to be a skinny vegan. I'm happy with a weight of 77-80kg, as long as it's lean muscle and not adipose. Thanks for the link!

Hi Shinkin, welcome
I have not been raw for long but suggest that if you have not been exposed to any teaching on nutrition you consider purchasing some books on raw foods and on nutrition from authors such as Bernard Jenson and the raw book by Alissa Cohen titled 'living on live food'.  This will give you a grounding on why you should eat raw unprocessed foods then go from there so you have purpose for your eating.  The Alissa Cohen book is available from this web site and some information by Jenson is available through his web site.  Also Ehret's book is brilliant and Braggs books are great as well.  Ehret's book is available through this web site as well.

Thanks frangipanni,

I decided on Tuesday to make a transition to raw. Unfortunately I shop on Wednesdays and that was before I downloaded the e-book. All I bought was fruit and veg from the grocers and some tempeh. When deciding to become a vegan I did in fact do a lot of reading on nutrition (you have to if you like to defend your choices to family and friends). My decision comes from a book I read about a martial arts master who advocated a raw diet - and dried rice! ..C'mon, I love Fried rice, but Dried rice!? Does anyone know how to prepare dried rice, it sounds like I need a dehydrator for that?

I appreciate the subtext of concern about my calorie intake and will use this journal and my membership in this very cool community as a "big picture" of how I'm going with that. But please hold the panic back until my next shopping trip!  Then I'll be sure to be asking for lots of tender loving sos

Snack - Leftover jasmine rice with lebanese cucumber slices, 1 tomato and slices of vege-smoke in one whole grain sandwiches with nori strips

Lunch - Puffed rice crackers with more of the above

Dinner - 1 tomato, some broccoli, 1 carrot sliced, some sliced mushroom, 1/4 red pepper . 3 potatoes sliced and baked in sea salt and cracked pepper with olive oil and soy sauce

Snacks. 1 cup green tea. 3 cups so good essentials. Glass of multi-v, an apple. 1 wild tablet. 1 iron tablet. Some licqorice.

Did I make my five and two? Two fruit, no (wait - what are tomatoes again!?). Five vegies, yes!

Hi Shinken,

If you could slip in a green juice or a green smoothie before your muesli you could kill two birds with one stone and boost your f+v intake while raising your iron levels. Buy a few bags spinach and parsley on your next shopping trip and throw these into a blender with some ripe bananas. After a couple of weeks of this you won't look back.

hey there...

more cals....yup its little wonder you're tired...

great you are upping raw intake

hmmm, you wont be a 'skinny vegan' as you put it..if you eat plenty of carbs(fruit) greens and no more than 10% plant fat...from avos, nuts and seeds..per day....

you can be a lean looking cooked food eater, and still have a high percentage of body fat..example is Jim( who posts here sometimes) he never looked 'fat' on cooked food...but when he changed to raw...his transformation was phenomenal...and he's certainly not skinny...

smoothies are an awesome way to go to get more fruit in and greens

when you eat more raw intitially you will shed your old physical self as you go through detox...but you simply, train as you keep going, and you wont notice a big reduction in body size...just your ratio of muscle to fat will improve..

eat heaps more fruit....(i have more than 5 serves of fruit just for breakfast.....) and you will have no desire or cravings for processed sugar or cooked carbs

Yes i second what Neety says....more cals for sure! In the form of sweet juicy fruits.  Your health and energy will really increase if you replace your morning meal of grains to a meal of sweet fruit, like 10-15 bananas blended with celery and water. Grains are VERY difficult to digest, they are like chards of glass on the intestines and they tear the delicate lining.  They contain insoluble fibre which humans can't break down...best to leave it for the birds. They are highly deficient in Vit C and are acid forming which affects uptake of other nutrients. Grain consumption will play a big part in draining your energy.

You will only be a skinny person if you don't train.  Putting the muscles under adequate resistance create tiny tears in the muscle fibres leading to the addition & 'laying down of' more muscle fibres hence increased your size and strength, do the training and expect positive results and so you will receive. Increased muscle mass has so many benefits.

Raw sugar won't be attractive if you get enough fruit.  You are still not eating enough fruit...2 fruit? Any fears of fruit here?

Yay, over the last two days where I haven't been able to log in, I've actually met my 5 & 2. You'll just have to take my word for it ;-)

It's helped having two rostered days off work also! This let me get a decent sleep, up and at my 30mins to thrive on the elliptical trainer, my sun salutes and then on with my day. It's good to start the day slow and relaxed and inspired rather than at the 3rd slap of the snooze button, getting dressed and riding off to work.

Today is pay day and I'll be buying my groceries today. No no Freelea, no false evidence. Just making my goals s.m.a.r.t and setting the game up to win. Next goal is sprout weekly, blow off the dust from then blender/food processor and start the day with a v6 green smoothie *acknowledging nod to goji girl & RGG* (after my lemon juice kick start). Morning tea is cruddies and dip. Lunch is planned and dinner also. Unfortunately I'll just have to copy meals from the e-book until my vivid imagination kicks in!

..has anyone tried tempeh in a smoothie? Just kidding. Though, meals throungh a blender still can still be tasty. Hm.

Hmm..

I have taken the hint that I should eat more fruit from my mentors here. So, I like the number three (3) and will treble the recommendation of 5 & 2 to 15 and 6. Wow, I might have to shop every day, if I'm to fit it in my backpack. Though, it's not that much per meal and I'm amazed I didn't realize this earlier. I've had an orange and a kiwi fruit for breakfast and two green teas. Yeah, not much but it was the last of my food and I wasn't going to get the blender out for tempeh and avocado. *shudders*. Does anyone else go and eat after making a post?

Ok, let's gooooo SHOPPING!

On top of my orange and kiwi fruit for breakfast, later today after my shopping or during I had a chocolate bar and vegetable pastie. Shopping could've been VERY complicated. The spinach, celery and carrots filled my backpack and I filled a large carton! Luckily I asked if the the store delivers.. So it was to be dropped off after 6pm.

At home I had two avocado sandwiches then a bowl of corn pasta with tomato, avocado, coconut oil, carrot and zucchini with some vege salt, chased down later with a green tea and chlorophyll.

I drank two cans of lemon V before TAFE info session then some dodgy wedges at TAFE - they must've been there all day! I strongly dislike how places like that, where staff are trained in food handling, place no value on quality or freshness!!

When I got home from the session I discovered my bountifuls. It was like winning a wonderful hamper, only more wonderful because I knew I liked everything in there and there weren't any obvious "seconds". For dinner I had a handful of almonds, two tempeh salad sandwiches - avocado, almonds, carrot, cos lettuce, nuttelex, red pepper, lebanese cucumber. And a dark chocolate heart for dessert.

I'm in two minds about measuring portions. I don't want to become obsessed about the food I eat, it's my fuel, not my joy. I'm not a slave to my senses. ..I guess, I just made my mind up :-D

Obviously my goal of 15 and 6 wasn't met due to delivery time.
