Green Smoothie Fun!

Green smoothies are a great way to eat your greens - just blend fruit, greens and water/juice until smooth and enjoy. When you start you might add only a small amount of greens, but with experience it's suggested you work to a ratio of 60% greens to 40% fruit. Who says you need to eat salad to get your greens. Now you can drink them!

Raw Pleasure Green Smoothie with a Twist

2 cups greens (basil, baby English spinach, parsley)
1 cup red grapes
3 nectarines
1 cup water

Blend until smooth.

When you use basil it gives it a spicy kick!
Baby English spinach gives a smoother effect.
If you'd like more sweetness try using orange juice instead of water.

You should see some of the stuff Piers eats... he makes these weird but wonderful health drinks with all kinds of different greens and other things and manages to eat them... they remind me of Joss's comment about her smoothie looking like pond scum! I like eating things that are good for me... but they at least need to taste neutral, if not tasty.

Maybe when using orange juice you just need to try adding less other fruit... so it's sort of like orange juice blended with greens. That could be fun to try. We just got in the Green for Life book on green smoothies... and a section is on savory green drinks... more like soups. I'll share a couple of my favourites later this week!

Cheers,

i am overjoyed with my green smoothies...overjoyed because of the awesome health results i am getting...the increase in my energy, the clarity of mind,i feel so calm and more peaceful...and i thought i was firing before...who knew!!

raw continues to take me on to the next level...wow!whats coming next...

plus,i just adore the taste of them...all time fave is with the ripest bananas possible, lots of parsley, spinach mango and water....ohhh it's so lush..
it's like pure liquid energy for me....
even if it does look like alien guts...(oh sorry, but it does...)but the greener it looks the more pleasure i take in devouring it and chewing it and savouring every morsel before it goes and electrifies my cells...
haven't tried the orange juice idea..looking forward to getting my hands on the green smoothie book..

off to bed, dreaming of my next greeeeeen smoothie..

well i just had my green smoothie...

lettuce,parsley,2 oranges and a wad of pineapple with lots of water, mild and quite refreshing, not sweet at all-i guess because i put so much water in it...

nice and light for the first greeny of the day..

will get hubby's verdict..

my fave still is the banana mango and greens one...
will try one with rocket later...

mine was bananas, mango, loads of butter lettuce, rocket and parsley...so pretty and green, and a nice tang with the rocket...

sorry for those whose greens supply at the moment is so limited..(sheryl..)

i think i may try my next one with some coriander...that would make an interesting twist i think...

get my green smoothie book soon...yay...can't wait to devour info on the greatness of greens...glorious greens....

Well, I have been drinking green smoothies for a little while now as I purchased the 'green' book 'a while ago'. I don't really follow any particular recipe but one of my recent favs is:

               watermelon - prob. 2-2 1/2 Cups
               red grapes - 1 - 1 1/2 cups
               peaches - 2 - 3 (depends on size)
cos lettuce ( 6-8 large leaves)
               2 stalks celery
               3-4 sprigs parsley
               5 inch chunk cucumber

I just have what I need in the morning and refridgerate the rest and drink when in need. I too agree that you feel so much more balanced when drinking them, It's great!!!
Maybe someone else will enjoy this blend.

Miss Giggles.... there are TWO copies from the pre shipment of Green for Life still here!!! If you order quick one can be in the mail tomorrow.. Janita's already went today!

Parsley - you could use just the leaves, and keep the stem for juice. OR chop the stem into smaller pieces before you put in... that might give it a better chance at blending.

Cheers,
Sheryl

PS Nectarines are delicious in smoothies... we have a whole tray of organic ones coming tomorrow! Very exciting.. and a tray of nashi's. I wonder how they would be in smoothies??

Just a quick other mention, if I use OJ, I never combine it with banana - seems to upset the stomach, but with pineapple and melons it's GOOOOOOD. Even just OJ and rockmelon is yum.
Has anyone used apple juice? Also very tasty with oranges, watermelon, banana, mango, this is my list but I'm sure you other guys could come up with some yummy treats.
Using watermelon or grapes cuts down the need for too much water. Just put it in the blender first!
Hey Miss Giggles, what  kind of blender are you using? I blend parsley all the time with no worries in a Sunbeam Cafe series blender and never cut it up.Maybe add 4-6 icecubes and blend for longer so it doesn't come out warm like soup - not good! I actually always add ice to keep it cool so it can blend up real fine.

I believe you - a friend of ours ordered it from Perth last year!!

It's now scheduled again for re-release in March - cross your fingers. It's apparently being almost completely rewritten. Enjoy the old one, and don't be too sad if many things have changed. One thing I know has is in the old one he suggests leaving water out in the sun to charge it. Apparently research no longer supports that.

Green smoothies - love the idea of watermelon as a base. We tried grapes and nectarines last week and it was yummy!

trouble finding nice stone fruit over here this season, all green and bland and bit nasty really...

ohhh,i'm liking the sounds of melon blended with lime juice..mm will try tomorrow it's going to be a hotish day...

i gotta tell you...the GREEN FOR LIFE- book is awesome..i received it today, lovingly sent in the post by sheryl...and have read half of it already, and absolute must read for all raw foodist...vital extremely important information for all of our health and wellbeing...
Victoria has spent so much time researching with such an absolute passion, and we are so blessed to be party to this knowledge, wow! it's knocking my socks off...hubby is definitely drinking a large cup of my green smoothie every morning...and i've advised him not to pour his morning coffee on top of it....

sooo,it goes to show i haven't been imagining feeling so marvellous since introducing green smoothies into my life..

rock on green...i just adore my fruits..but in all honesty i knew there was something missing...Nikita...you mentioned the dizzy spells and feeling faint, this will all make sense to you if you read the book...

and no,i don't get a commission for promoting the book...i just feel like spreading the word, when i find something so wonderful and potentially helpful to all people-even those not eating an all raw vegan diet..

love to all...my raw friends...

miss gmentioned in other post, tried that watermelon and lime...to delish...but then decided to throw in some fresh aloe plant for greenness of course...very scrummy and the watermelon really cut the bitterness..

hey do you blend it seeds and all....i did.cos i've heard the seeds are quite good for you...does anyone know(sheryl would i think....)they kind of sank to the bottom like tiny bits of gravel but i chewed them up...
other day threw in coriander with my greens in the smoothie, very nice flavour really...wouldn't put in a whole bunch though...just a good handful...

Piers and I powered up while unpacking today with an entire Vitmaix jug of mesculine lettuce mix blended with about a cup of pineapple and 4 peaches. It was yummy! The greens nicely balanced out the sweetnes of the fruit. I think that's what I'm enjoying most about Green Smoothies!!

Unpacking and inventory is done! How exciting!!! Tuesday here we come!

Cheers,
Sheryl
