There was a newsflash on tv yesterday with pictures of trees down, and papaya's scattered everywhere all over the road...  My first thought was about the poor fruit loss too Miss Giggles!

I seriously hope our dream of living off the fruit we can pick along the way isnt shattered!  Might have to stock up on fruit in Gold Coast, Townsville or Cairns before we head up to Port Douglas. We might be living off jars of olives and green leaves for 2 weeks!

The poor people of Innisfail. How devastating to lose everything you own. I cant imagine it. Sad

My first thought was RESCUE the FRUIT! But they have much more important things to take care of up there right now. It looks like our single delivery of durian from up north may be it! I really feel for the grower.

Cheers,

If they could salvage something it would help them financially.

Poor loves all their houses are scattered all over the place. My heart goes out to those that have lost everything.

I just finished reading an article that stated that due to global warming, hurricanes, cyclones and storms are getting much stronger. A sign of things to come as sea temperatures warm up.

Martin spoke to the durian grower who said he'll have no durian for 10 years, all of his crops, trees and everything else he was growing was decimated.  When you actually think of the time it takes to grow these beauties the realization of what a gut wrenching blow it must be for the grower.  It's almost surreal that we were gorging ourselves only the other week and looking forward to the next order and now...no more.

Oh no! That poor man.

I have family in farming and know first hand how difficult it can be. Especially when you are working all year for one crop. There is so little security in it too. I now appreciate the delicious durian we had a few weeks ago even more.

The banana crop will recover relatively quickly. Its the large tree crops that will take years for new crops to grow. If the avocado trees were blown over it might take up to 15 years to get those industries backon track.

I wonder how the nut trees fared?

hey fellow gs lovers...i was very lucky to get a big box of bananas today,as a great price, and will get another box on friday...straight into the freezer they go...little precious golden gems they are, will be savouring every morsel...

todays gs..bananas,mango handful of red grapes
small head of dark green lettuc
and few celery tops
water

was delicious, not as dark vibrant green as usual,as that was the last of any greens in my house, needless to say i have replenished again today, with bunches of parsley, and chard, dark green and red lettuces, and baby spinach, that will last a few days..as i am feeding my girlfriend the gs as well, and my hubby,we do tend to go through the greens fairly quickly, but hey! it's all going to a good cause, health ,wellbeing, and mental/physical/emotional optimum health..

Neet,

My gs today was the blender packed full of baby spinach, a small handful of spearmint, 2 x frozen bananas and 2 peaches.

Gorgeous green goodness.  And, much the same as most days!  I shall mourn the passing of fantastic peaches - this summer has been outstanding!

Yesterday I had a great gs.  Blender full of lettuce (I think, it might have been baby spinach), and a big handful of chinese broccoli leaves (not the whole bunch this time  cheesy), a mango, some bananas and a peach.

I could taste/smell the chlorophyll, which made me happy, and didn't knock the socks off me like last time.  I'm now buying chinese broccoli weekly, because it is such a powerful green.  I've just got to work out how to use the stalks raw.  Perhaps just in a salad or something, finely sliced.

i love the broc stalks, haven't tried the leaves yet..the bok choy leaves, pack a whammy too in the gs mix!

I seem to be low in iron at the moment and I am now making gs as dark leafy greens are one of the best sources of iron as are sesame seeds.

This book I am reading at the moment outlines the interdependence of that minerals have with each other. A depletion in one can cause another mineral not to be used and any residue can then act as a toxic overload on the body.

Its a really great read and something completely new to me.

Here's a lovely green smoothie.  Some of it is very similar to what I have every day  rolleyes, but with a different green mix, this shakes things up a bit...

Blender full of 1/2 baby spinach and 1/2 wild rocket + a good handful of Thai (purple) basil
1 x mango
1 x peach
2 x frozen bananas

This is a very tasty gs.  Peppery taste of rocket, and the basil gives it a great kick.

aloha my gs friends...i made a pure dream of a gs today, something a little different..

juiced 5 divine apples
1/2 a purple onion
1 cucumber
added in my bananas
good handful of grapes with pips
loads of kale,lettuce,parsley(with stalks-no probs miss g's)
water
wow,it was kind of dense in texture, but it was pure liquid fuel...my gs buddies loved it,as did i...mmm immediate fuel..and hydration.

hubbs has bought a massive fruit bowl for me..now i am 173cm tall, with long arms, the only way i can describe the size of this bowl,i put my arms out straight and then widen somewhat like i am going to put my arms out wide for a big hug, this is kind of the size of this bowl, and it's really deep, with fluted edges, and frosted glass around the edges, but clear everywhere else,it is big enough to be a large large fish bowl...but perfect as my fruit bowl...

must go and put my new box of squishy ripe bananas into the freeze...
