Hi ALL cheesy

Firstly I am about to start playing about with green smoothies and I thought I would ask a silly question  rolleyes guys what is the difference between em ?

I always thought if you add water to your juice that you are diluting the goodness  huh .However i think smoothies sound much easier to prepare just bung everything into the vita mix and whirl!

What is a good starting recepie or book that i can start playing around with? Does anybody also add superfoods to their smoothies like maca or spirulina?

Am little  huh at the moment plz enlighten me. smiley

Smoothies are basically fruit/vegetables blended with water. We quite regularly add some maca to ours too.

One I enjoyed this morning was just water, with bananas and loads of parsley.

There has been an ongoing debate as to juices or shole foods... smoothies runs a center line between the two. It's still got all the fibre, and is also broken down into tiny pieces to make it very easy to digest.

The stomach does a great job of absorbing extra water very quickly (the walls can absorb water to create an optimal food density in the stomach). Overall drinking loads of water with meals isn't recommeneded, but in green smoothies it's what helps blend well to make it more digestible. I suppose if you have a high speed blender you could also blend the same ingredients into a pudding! I don't think it would taste quite as good though.

Cheers,

seeing as we are on the subject of the wonderful green smoothies...i made a person discovery today...a first for me..

i think it was miss giggles who recommended watermelon and lime juice blended...well i did that...drank a glass-just beautiful by the way..popped the remaining glass in the fridge, went outside to water some of our plants, and i'm looking at the aloe plant...remembering that vb in green for life said she included aloe on her list of greens in smoothies...so i nibbled a bit..wow! very bitter, but undettered..put 3 good slices into my blender and tossed in the watermelon blend...whizzzzz,and down it went...that was 1/4 of an hour ago...no ill effects...feel very full really....so will continue to include aloe in my smoothies..

went shopping today for greens...wanted to get beet tops and carrottops and celery tops...so nutritious...so i asked the young guy at the store...he said no...but maybe i could get you some celery tops...so i'm waiting and waiting.....thinking perhaps he was waiting for it to grow....next thing he comes around the corner with 1/2 a garbage bag full of celery tops...hmmm i think he thinks i own a rabbit of more to the point a whole family of rabbits....quite funny really...

picked up some bok choy, parsley(lots) rocket, celery tops :rolleyes:spinach....so i armed and ready for alternating my greens as vb recommends...

for me alegnegreen smoothies are far superior to green juice...even though i still enjoy a glass of the fine green juice now and then...i have been drinking it for years..but never had such positive results as what i am experiencing with green smoothies...and if you read GREEN FOR LIFE you will understand why....

i know i know,i'm on about that book again-but it so gooood... kiss

oh  yes,and combined with practicing shivambu...i feel so much more hydrated now with my green smoothies..than with green juice, and i'm drinking much less plain water..

Hi
I have just started drinking some green juices- and enjoying them!  They look. . . . . well, I just challenge my kids to race them down!  I have been reading Natalia Rose's 'The Raw Food Detox Diet" and have been using her recipe adapted to what I have.  Lots of lettuce, silverbeet, an apple, lemon with skin on, cucumber, and a bit of ginger.  Surprised me how good it tastes.
I'm feeling good on this.  My six yo still prefers the green smoothies with bananas and blueberries, I just add some off the juice to his smoothies for an added boost.  whatever works I reckon. cheesy

Hi Alegne,
I've been using both juices and smoothies or raw soups actually most days lately.

The difference between the two is that smoothies are simply whole foods broken down  so tiny that its easier to digest of course you should still always chew every mouthfull I find or else it can cause indigestion.

Properly made juices on the other hand are pure liquid nourishment with all the fiber totally removed giving you a way to take in much higher amounts of vitamins, minerals  and enzymes than could be possibly eaten without overworking your system.

Many people have been cured of near fatal sicknesses through the use of juices and I believe adding juices to your diet regularly is one of the best things anyone can do for their health   Smiley
