Im gettin thru my latest vegan voice mag and...

theres a review of julianos restaurant in califonia, its done by aussie vegan joanne rose (actor/model, lived there for 10 yrs)

Anyways in one of the beginning sentences talking about raw food, sayin how its popularity is increasing etc it then says "The lifestyle rules out wheat, soy, corn, rice, grains (ok i got that, but then) seedless fruits, beans, carrots, bananas, dates, potatoes, pineapple, oats, cane, kiwi fruit and all starches ans sugars. Ok so i kno seedless fruits are like inferile men and eating things with seeds but i havent seen the raw food described like that b4. And kiwi fruit?

Maybe i missed something Tongue

In his earlier days Davis Wolfe encouraged raw fooder to give up a lot of seedless and hybrid fruits like bananas, seedless grapes and watermelon. I dont know where he stands on these issues now though.

Some raw fooders dont eat grasses or beans. I have a lot of foods that I do not eat. These include vinegar, overt oils, spices, some herbs, salt and soy foods including miso. I am slowly phasing out tahini and nuts, excluding almonds. Nuts are highly acidic in the body and if eaten in excess can rob one of great health. Eaten in moderation they should not present any problems.

.I have been doing some research on the way oils behave once eaten and the link between poor eyesight and vegetable oil consumption. My eyesight improved out of ssight when I limited my fat intake. However it stopped when I raised the level of fats in my eating plan.

The best thing to do id to follow your gut instincts and eat whatever food you desire. You can eat as much as you wish without any ill effects.

I think what's happened is she's been given a list of what people on all different types of raw diet's don't eat, and combined them all into one. Yes there are some that won't eat sweet fruits, however there are also many that live on them. Grain and legumes are common for many to leave out of a raw diet, however many eat them. The raw food diet isn't quite that simple!

I'm SOOO glad that there was yet another article on raw foods in VV. How amazing is that - there were FOUR mentions at least in this issue, and just as many last time. WILD!!!

Thank you Vegan Voice for being such an inspiring amazing read!!

If you are still looking for a copy they can usually be found at health food stores or ordered online from www.veganic.net

Cheers,
Sheryl

Yea ive been subscribed to VV now for roughly 4 yrs now and the raw food talk has slowly, but def increased in it. Tis good Smiley

I think making a long list like joanne did, kinda made the raw diet sound as if u end up living on love, or air, or something. Didnt make it sound too appealing, esp to newcomers. Its good its a raw review, maybe better if she had included the long list of raw food go zones and not all the no-go zones.

Many of my restrictions come from me preferring a fruitarian diet. I minimise vegetables and maximise fruits, both sweet and non sweet. I do better on this and it saves time and energy.

From Manna Wholefoods on South Tce Fremantle. They are the only place in perth that sells it. They had the current issue and the one before for sale, so I bought them both. I was going to bring them to the picnic this afternoon for you to borrow!  x x

21cg - where did you go?  One minute you're here, and the next Michael Franti is 'holding the fort' for you.

Do I sense a fellow Spearhead/Michael Franti fan?  I always steal his line 'all the freaky people make the beauty of the world".  I use it so much that I should pay him royalties.  I always credit him though.

Ahem, anyway, about that VV article.......

Neet,

Here are the details posted on another thread...

They're mostly in health food shops, vegetarian restaurants and cafes.  If you call them - you'll be able to find out where they're available in your area (or send them an email).

Here's the lowdown:

Phone: (02) 6689 7498
Email: veganvoice@aapt.net.au
Website: http://veganic.net

Call them, or send an email to find out where they are.  Unless you head to your local health food shop and give it a try.  They have pretty limited outlets.

If you get stuck, give me a shout - I can pick one up for you.

I got my first copy of VV from the animal lib NSW site way back when.

Michael Franti/Spearhead Fan. Oh hell yes, regard me as a Spearit my friend. I was only introduced to the fine man's music about 5 yrs ago, and thought what the HELL have i been missin! So then i backed tracked and checked out some of his older work to, the stuf with the Disposable Hereos Of HipHopCrisy.

'everyone deserves music' 'all the freaky ppl make the beauty of the world' 'we can bomb the world to pieces, but we cant bomb the world to peace' 'mcdonald eatin, u deserve a beatin' ah the one-lines go on and on ...

Yet to see him live, he's always takin off to the blues and roots festival and not visitin lil SA. I gotta get there one yr too.

He's the one that inspired the thought of dreadlocks in me too, well thats if i get em Tongue

CG - I only learned of him about 4 years ago too!  And that was in Byron.  I had no idea who he was, which in Byron is a total no-no.  He's like a patron saint there.

He busks in the street darn it during the blues festival!  I love his dreads too!

I've never seen him live either, but I haven't seen a lot of people I love live.  One bloke I've been a fan of for 20 years, and I've never seen him play.  That's cool.  I'd probably faint or something.

I sent you a pm re Mr Franti.  Check it soon!  You've inspired me, and I have Songs from the Porch playing now.....
