What are "REALLY Raw" Cashews?
1. Nutritionally superior - So called "raw" cashews originally come in a shell, too hard to crack easily, so they're typically either thrown in boiling hot oil for 25 minutes, or in a fire, making them easy to shell. To quote idtg.org on the normal cashew process: "When heated, nuts are placed on the pan and stirred constantly. The cashew nut liquid starts to exude and then ignites. This produces a long flame and black smoke. After approximately two minutes, the pan is dowsed and the charred, swollen and brittle nuts are thrown out of the pan. The moisture evaporates quickly leaving the nuts ready for shelling." If they are not roasted (after being thrown in the fire/boiling oil!) this they are sold as "raw" cashews! The really raw cashews are different. Opened individually by hand using no heat (just a lot of work!) they keep their proteins, amino acids, enzymes and vitamins intact and their oils fresh. These nuts are so alive, that the ones with the bud intact can still actually grow! This is something that cannot be done with any other commercially available cashews in Australia. 2. Grade#1 - Cashews are graded on two things: a) Size and percentage that are whole (which you can see are both well above average on these) and b) How light the colour is (light yellowness is natural, however cashews go darker with oxidisation). The lighter the colour and the more whole the cashews are, the higher the grade. These are of the highest grade#1 available. 3. A delicious new flavour – Keeping the oils fresh and the nutrients undamaged, gives these cashews a more rich and “buttery” taste, keeping people (including us) coming back for more – and with good reason! Better taste combined with better nutrition is a compelling combination. 4. Chemical free - grown organically in forests without the use of any chemicals, these cashews have been kept chemical free through every step. They're beyond just grown without chemicals – we ensure they stay without chemicals on entry into Australia. We pay quarantine large sums of money to process our nuts organically instead of fumigating / irradiating as is customary for imported nuts. 5. Wild – These cashews are extremely close to cashew trees growing wild in their native homeland of Brazil (which later exported cashews to India). The skins (or testa) on our premium range is also a natural source of a range of anti microbial, anti bacterial compounds that help the plant to ward off disease. |

Customer Reviews:Freedom Bradbury (Friday, 07 March 2008)Rating: ![]() Well, I walked through the door of my local organic shop and these were the first thing I saw. I squealed "cashews!!!" It's a good thing they know me well there, though I think another lady at the counter nearly jumped out of her skin :-)rnrnThese are the only cashews I'll eat. They're super! Put them in a coffee grinder to make the original parmesan cheese, then sprinkle on a bowl of tomato sauce over spiralised zucchini. Yummmmmm james instincto eater (Saturday, 29 September 2007) Rating: ![]() we are interested when they will be back in stock especially the ones with the skin, i'm curious to know if they have been frozen upon entry into australia Harley Johnstone (Friday, 21 July 2006) Rating: ![]() like they say 'everybody loves cashews. and these lil' nuggets of goodness are my favourite nut by far. ive eaten a kilo bag in 24 hours! just on their own. and ive had em blended with sunflower kernels and garlic to produce the original cream cheese. slap that on some flaxcrackers or lettuce leaves or even a dip with some sliced veg. but keep it to yourself cos fights will errupt when it comes down to the last spoonful! to me they taste similar to the common stuff. but with a hint more creamy, sweeter, nuttier flavour. not to mention being raw and packed with goodness. ive had both the wild and the skinned versions of these uncorrupted cashews. the skinned are more morish, and the wild are a unique flavour. either way there all good. |
