The fundamental purpose of eating is to replenish the cells and tissues in the body. This book is both a nutritional guide and a cookbook with a wide range of recipes for a balanced natural food diet, particularly relevant for vegetarians. The pitfalls of overindulgence in certain food elements, especially oil and sugar, have been well documented. Why not start eating today in a way that promotes increased health and healing of your body.

Norman Walker covers the effects of different foods and explains other topics such as food combining and colon therapy. He clearly explains the nutritional elements in food (enzymes, amino acids etc) and covers the effects that specific foods have on the human body.

Both a recipe book and nutritional guide, "The Vegetarian Guide to Diet and Salad" belongs in every kitchen.

"In order to regain and maintain the proper balance of health, most of the food we eat must contain live, vital organic elements. These elements are found in fresh raw vegetables, fruits, nuts and seeds... The fact that for generations millions upon millions of people have lived and are living who have rarely if ever eaten anything but cooked foods does not prove that their being alive is the result of eating cooked foods. As a matter of fact, they are in a state of decadent existence which is confirmed by the toxic condition of their bodies. Else, why such a high rate of heart trouble, diabetes, cancer, emphysema, premature senility and premature deaths? "

This book mightn't be big, but it's big on essential information from one of the legends of the raw food movement. Norman Walker has provided a wealth of knowledge on food:- what to eat and what not to eat, it's effects on the body, along with an encyclopaedia of fruits and vegetables. There's a stack of recipes, which are extremely simple but provide charming instructions on appetizing presentation. Some of the recipes use non-vegan ingredients such as cottage cheese, other cheese and eggs, but these can be easily omitted. Highly recommended as a valuable source of information at a very low price.
