Grown in exotic Peru, lucuma is a member of the Sapotaceae family making this a similar fruit to sapote and canistel. It has a distinct maple flavour that will make your tastebuds very happy they were born! With it's breast like appearance the fruit has been associated with fertililty and nourishment in ancient times. Lucuma is high in niacin, beta-carotene and iron. The Lucuma fruit has been honored both spiritually and culinarily since ancient times in the Peruvian culture. The tree is long living and evergreen and has been known to provide nourishment for a season when ground crops fail. Dried lucuma is a gorgeous sweet powder that will add flavour and substance to your smoothies, puddings, raw cakes, chocolate, slices and more... We've been using a spoon in smoothies for the best flavour. And because the powder is so smooth it's also great used in recipes like raw cheesecakes for extra flavour. We're also rolling truffles and raw treats in it for a creamy white coating that tastes delicious. YUMMY! |
